The Girl Gaze Project is an instagram that grew into a multimedia platform to encourage and highlight female artists. Graphic designer and artist Delphine Diallo's image of black Barbie dolls was reposted on @GirlGaze for the beginning of Black History Month to "contend the stereotype of what black women should represent."

Though the symbolism of a black barbie doll is quite literal in representing black women, the image reminded me of our upcoming project. Diallo also mentions Barbie's push to represent more types of women because their brand is such a literal representation of women. Barbies now come in varying shapes and weights, gender expressions, races, and I believe soon will feature disabled bodies.

The image made me think about how important representation is in art and media, which is relevant to our upcoming project.
