JACKSON POLLOCK

The first thought that came to mind when I heard that we would be using abstraction to create our Imaginary Cities was "Jackson Pollock." Often considered the face of the abstract expressionism movement, Pollock's paintings redefined the categories of drawing and painting by pushing the boundaries of what it means to describe pictorial space.

Especially after our discussion in class about whether it was the viewer's or the artist's interpretation that mattered "more," I wanted to learn more about the controversies that centered around Pollock's art. I listened to this quick npr podcast, which helped to answer some questions about why Pollock's work is so popular, despite how polarizing his art seems to be.
